Only a decade or so ago ‘model’ soldiers were thought of by many people as ’toy’ soldiers and were hardly ever considered to be anything other than colourful playthings. Collection of such pieces by adults might indeed have been looked upon with some degree of suspicion as showing a great degree of eccentricity.
